Group Study Exchange

The Group Study Exchange (GSE) is a program of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 and in the early years of their professional lives. The program provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits between paired areas in different countries. For four to six weeks, team members experience the host country's institutions and ways of life, observe their own vocations as practiced abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.  More information on this program click here. to go to the Rotary International website.

Delaware Rotary typically hosts a day of activities when a team visits the District.  One such team from Brazil arrived in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, April 20, 2003. The Delaware Rotary Club hosted the group through Wednesday, April 23. Follow their tour . . .

The day started off with meeting the Delaware City Manager, Tom Homan and Delaware City Mayor, Wendell Wheeler. The team really delved into the various forms of city government and how decision making is done.

The team then visited the Delaware Municipal Court where they were able to observe Judge Sunderman arraign a prisoner in the Delaware County Jail via a two-way television hookup.

From there, the GSE team visited the Delaware Arts Castle, where they learned about a vast number of programs available to a wide range of age groups.

The Delaware Rotary Club was privileged to hear a presentation made by the Group Study Exchange team at the noon Rotary meeting.

Following the meeting, the Team continued their visits with a trip to the Delaware City Schools Dempsey Technology Center - a state of the art computer technology lab for kindergarten through 8th grade. The day's tour concluded with a trip to Grady Memorial Hospital and Ohio Wesleyan University. And no trip would be complete without a "happy hour" at the Brown Jug Restaurant.
